Costa Rica Visa Requirements and Procedures

Who will require a visa?
Nationals of the following countries do not require a visa in order to stay in Costa Rica for a specific period of time:

Citizens of all other countries are required to issue visa in order to enter into Costa Rica.
No Transit Visa is required for the travelers who want to travel to another country, provided they must have their onward travel ticket and must leave the country in 48 hours.

Required Necessary Documents:

The necessary documents required for the issue of visa are:
•    A passport with minimum of 6 months validity
•    Completely filled visa application form
•    Passport sized photographs
•    Return or onward travel tickets
•    Proof of sufficient funds to bear all personal expenses during the period of stay
•    Photocopies of the documents issued by travel agency or the Airline authorities
•    Visa processing fee
•    Identification proof and other necessary documents as required by the Consulate of Costa Rica

Time required for issue of Visa:
The time required to issue visa depends upon the nationality of the applicant. The processing and issuing of Visa may take up to 2 weeks depending upon the documents provided at the time of applying. The processing and issuing time might extend for some countries.
 
Costs involved in issuing visa:

A consular fee of US$20 is charged in order to issue visa. However, agents can charge additional cost on the given consular fee.

Validity of Visa:

The Validity of a visa depends upon the nationality and type of visa issued by the applicant. The validity of visa varies between 30 and 90 days.

The time required to issue visa depends upon the nationality of the applicant. It can take between 2 and 14 days to process and issue visa.

Costs involved in issuing visa:

The cost involved in issuing a visa varies by the type of visa applied by an applicant. A Temporary Single-entry Visa costs around £22 while a Temporary Multiple-entry Philippine Visa costs £43. An Employment Visa can cost up to £286.

Validity of Visa:

The Validity of a visa depends upon the nationality and type of visa issued by the applicant. The validity of Single-entry Visa is 59 days whereas Multiple-entry Visas are valid between 6 months and 1 year.

The time required to process and issue Tourist, Schengen or a Business Visa is about 15 days.

Costs involved in issuing visa:

The costs involved in issuing Transit, Schengen or Business visa is $ 92.40. Applicants can pay the processing fees in their nearest Spanish consulate office. Residents of Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia, Russia, Moldavia, Ukraine and Albania are offered a waiver on the processing fees and only have to pay $53.90 in cash.

Validity of Visa:

All types of Tourist, Schengen and Business Visas are issued with a validity of 90 days. Tourists can also apply for overstay and can submit application forms to the visa issuing authorities of Spain.

Citizens of the above listed countries can stay up to a maximum period of 3 months. They can also apply for an extension, upon which they can stay up to 9 months in New Zealand.
Citizens of countries which are not listed above can stay for 9 months only.
